This is justification — not self-improvement, but a legal verdict handed down by a holy God who stays perfectly just while justifying the ungodly. The result, as Paul puts it, is peace with God: “since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1, HCSB).
