These chapters fall into two magnificent movements.
Election and the future of Israel (chapters 9–11). Here Paul faces the hardest question of all: if Israel has largely rejected her Messiah, has the word of God failed? His answer is a resounding no. God’s purpose runs according to His sovereign election and His mercy, and — far from being cast off forever — Israel has a real and promised future in God’s plan. For anyone who takes the Scriptures at their word about God’s covenant faithfulness, these are some of the most reassuring chapters in the Bible.
The sanctified life (chapters 12–16). Justified people do not stay where they were found. Paul turns from doctrine to life: the believer presented as a living sacrifice, transformed rather than conformed, serving in the body, loving without hypocrisy, living under authority, and bearing with one another in Christian liberty. This is what justification produces — not a license, but a life.
As with every book in the series, this volume works through the text carefully and honestly, explaining every word of the text and unpacking the key original-language terms where they open up the meaning. It is offered as a biblical study, not a personal argument — the aim throughout is simply to help you see what Paul actually says.
