There is a particular kind of frustration that comes from finishing a book about the Bible and realizing you still have not been walked through the Bible. You have been handed conclusions, devotional thoughts, and told how to think about a biblical text that wasn’t even expounded upon. What you wanted was the text. We too often call “Bible Study” that which doesn’t actually study the Bible.
The Study Guide Series exists to close that gap. Each volume is a verse-by-verse expositional teaching resource that works through every word of the text of the book (or section of a book) it covers — not skipping the hard verses, not summarizing the ones that resist a tidy application, and unpacking the Hebrew and Greek terms where they genuinely illuminate what the writer meant. The voice is a teacher’s voice, because that is what these were before they were books: teaching outlines, worked and reworked in front of real people who ask real questions. Nearly four decades of pastoral teaching ministry serves as the background to this collection.
They are written to be used. Set one beside your Bible, work through a chapter at a time, and the study guide keeps pace with you rather than running ahead.
Here is the part worth understanding about this series: the books already exist.
This is a collection we have been storing up — a backlog of finished and near-finished work prepared for rapid release, all of it built to flesh out one coherent library rather than arriving as scattered one-offs. We have not yet released even one third of the books already prepared for this series. What governs the release schedule is not how fast the writing goes; it is a calculated pace, roughly one release each month, so that each volume gets its own moment and proper final editing rather than being buried in a dump of titles.
Four volumes and two group study guides are out. Eight more are copyrighted and sitting in the queue for final editing and release. Others are designed & outlined but not yet written out fully.
What has released so far:
- June — Jude, along with two companion Group Study Guides: a 20-week version and a 10-week condensed version for classes that need to move faster.
- July — Romans, Volume 1: Justified
- August — Romans, Volume 2: Elected and Sanctified
What is next:
- September — Habakkuk / Jonah (including separate Group Bible Study Editions for each of these books)
- October — Daniel, currently under final editing.

Habakkuk and Jonah, in One Volume
Two prophets. Two short books — short enough that they belong together in a single volume. And two men who came at the same uncomfortable question from opposite directions.
Habakkuk asked it out loud. How long, O LORD? He looked at the corruption inside Judah and demanded to know how a holy God could keep watching it and do nothing — and then received an answer far worse than the silence had been: God was doing something. He was raising up Babylon. The rest of the book is a prophet learning to live with an answer he never would have chosen, and it ends with one of the most remarkable declarations of faith anywhere in the Old Testament — a man promising to rejoice in God with the harvest failed, the stalls empty, and nothing at all left to show for it.
Jonah never asked. He ran. Not because he feared Nineveh would destroy him, but because he feared God would forgive it — and he was right. The book is less about a fish than most people remember, and far more about the argument a prophet picks with God on a hillside after the revival breaks out.
Put side by side, they say something the church badly needs to hear: God governs the nations of the world, His mercy is His to give, and the servant who wants to be useful will eventually have to make peace with both.
