{"id":16,"date":"2008-08-21T18:46:32","date_gmt":"2008-08-21T18:46:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/returningking.com\/?p=16"},"modified":"2008-08-21T18:46:32","modified_gmt":"2008-08-21T18:46:32","slug":"the-rapture-the-glorification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/returningking.com\/?p=16","title":{"rendered":"The Rapture (the glorification)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 4 of 6 in the series <a href=\"http:\/\/returningking.com\/?series=rapture\" class=\"series-211\" title=\"rapture\">rapture<\/a><\/div><h2 style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; line-height: 150%;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: large; font-family: Cambria;\">Our Transformation<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The next fascinating element of observation during the rapture event is a transformation which will occur to all who are taken to be with Christ.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Just as humanity is given a body which is appropriate for life on earth, so the inhabitants of Heaven must be granted one which is equipped for life in Heaven.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.25in; line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1 Corinthians 15:50-58 (NIV)<\/span><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">50<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. <\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">51<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed&#8211; <\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">52<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. <\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">53<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. <\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">54<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: &#8220;Death has been swallowed up in victory.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">55<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><\/span><em><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0&#8220;Where, O death, is your victory?<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Where, O death, is your sting?&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">56<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. <\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">57<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">58<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\">\u00a0Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\"> <\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.25in; line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The first observation in this text is the inconsistency between earthly matter and heavenly matter.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><strong><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><sup><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">50<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u00a0I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Clearly, one cannot enter Heaven as one currently is. A change must take place from earthly corruptible state to heavenly incorruptible state.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The &#8220;state&#8221; of man, of course, is sinful and perishable.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Such things are not suited for eternity.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>While man possesses the promise of salvation, he remains sinful, living under grace, but still having a sinful nature.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Thus a change in nature is needed:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.75in; line-height: 150%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 150%;\">we will all be changed&#8211; <\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; line-height: 150%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">52<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; line-height: 150%;\">\u00a0in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">That this change occurs &#8220;in a flash&#8221; indicates an instantaneous process whereby the imperishable replaces the perishable.<em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The phrase \u201cat the last trumpet\u201d has been taken by some to indicate the Seventh trumpet in Revelation, which would fit well with mid- and post tribulational theories.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>However this does not seem likely, as it appears that Paul assumes the church would know what he\u2019s talking about.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He knowingly mentions &#8220;the last trumpet,&#8221; without any further explanation.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The book of Revelation, which details that trumpet, however, has not yet been written.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>They could not know of the seven trumpets of the Revelation and could not know which trumpet Paul referred to if in fact it were the trumpet of Revelation.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It seems that Paul would offer an explanation of exactly what this trumpet were if that were the case.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>He is, after all, detailing the events to come.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>To refer to a trumpet no one knew about would have fit the very purpose of his writing.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>But, he did not, so it appears he is referring to a trumpet of which the church would be familiar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The trumpets the church would know about are the trumpets of the Old Testament.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It has been suggested that this may refer to the \u201clast trumpet\u201d of this age, the &#8220;church age.&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Or, it could refer to the final trumpet blast at the Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hoshanah).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The Feast of Trumpets called for numerous trumpet blasts in the synagogue service, each with differing characteristics and each having differing symbolic meanings. Tthe last one was called the \u201ctekiah gedolah\u201d or, in English, the \u201clast trumpet.&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The tekiah gedolah blast was a very long and sustained blast.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It was very well known in Jewish tradition as &#8220;the last trumpet,&#8221; and symbolized at the end of the feat the hope of future redemption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>For Paul to use &#8220;the last trumpet&#8221; without any further explanation indicates his consideration that the church would already know of what he spoke.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Corinth was a Roman city but also had a substantial Jewish population which undoubtedly Paul referred to in other places in the book.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>A Jewish population would have immediate historical knowledge of &#8220;the last trumpet&#8221; and its symbolic hope for redemption.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">This redemption is secured for the church, both dead and living, at this moment, for<\/span><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"> <\/span><\/em><strong><em><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">54<\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">\u00a0When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: &#8220;Death has been swallowed up in victory.&#8221; <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Thus the dead in Christ are raised with their new natures and those living are immediately changed into theirs.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 4 of 6 in the series <a href=\"http:\/\/returningking.com\/?series=rapture\" class=\"series-211\" title=\"rapture\">rapture<\/a><\/div><p>They could not know of the seven trumpets of the Revelation and could not know which trumpet Paul referred to if in fact it were the trumpet of Revelation.
