{"id":46,"date":"2008-08-23T07:58:11","date_gmt":"2008-08-23T07:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/returningking.com\/?p=46"},"modified":"2008-08-23T07:58:11","modified_gmt":"2008-08-23T07:58:11","slug":"definition-and-preview-of-the-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/returningking.com\/?p=46","title":{"rendered":"Definition and Preview of The Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"seriesmeta\">This entry is part 2 of 8 in the series <a href=\"http:\/\/returningking.com\/?series=law-and-believer\" class=\"series-215\" title=\"The Law and The Believer\">The Law and The Believer<\/a><\/div><h2 style=\"margin: 10pt 0in 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Cambria;\">Definition:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Law<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">&#8220;The Law&#8221; and &#8220;the Law of Moses&#8221; are common phrases throughout the Bible.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Law is referenced well over one hundred times in both testaments, and is actually referenced more in the New Testament by one of these titles than in the Old.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>As such, clearly the Law is a continual reality throughout biblical testimony.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is not a theme that withers and goes away.<!--more--><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The phrase &#8220;the Law of Moses&#8221; gives insight into its definition.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The Law does refer to that which Moses penned at God&#8217;s direction to be the Law for his people.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>While it is convenient to relegate the Law to Israel, and there are some levels at which this assignment is valid, the Law was for everyone who would receive it.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>God did not limit the following of the Law and the adoption into his program to only Israel.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Categorically, the Law refers to the commands of Moses.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus and the apostles defined the Law in that very same manner:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">John 7:23 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>23 <\/sup>Now if a child can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing the whole man on the Sabbath? <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Luke 24:44 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>44 <\/sup>He said to them, &#8220;This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.&#8221; <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">1 Corinthians 9:9 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>9 <\/sup>For it is written in the Law of Moses: &#8220;Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.&#8221; Is it about oxen that God is concerned? <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Mark 10:2-3 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>2 <\/sup>Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, &#8220;Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?&#8221; <sup>3 <\/sup>&#8220;What did Moses command you?&#8221; he replied. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The commands of Moses most commonly known to the church age are those original ten given on Mount Sinai, &#8220;The Ten Commandments.&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Other laws were given to Moses, however, and documented in the scriptures for God&#8217;s people to follow.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, there were, by Jewish traditional calculations, 603 additional commands given by Moses for a total of 613 commands of Moses.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">This set of laws ranged a truly impressive array of human conditioning on virtually every subject.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>For this reason many in Jewish tradition spent the duration of their lives attempting to interpret and study it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin: 10pt 0in 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 13.0pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Cambria;\">A Preview of The Law<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Rather than to list the entire 603 commands in this work, a composite of only a few dozen will be demonstrated for a fuller understanding of the fullness of the Law.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>But, this short study of the diversity of the law is necessary to the student of this work in order to understand the dilemma which awaits.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Much of the Law is very pragmatic in keeping with Christian tradition and the teachings of Jesus and the apostles.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is the stuff Christian t-shirts were made for:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Deuteronomy 6:16 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>16 <\/sup>Do not test the Lord your God as you did at Massah. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Leviticus 19:32 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>32 <\/sup>&#8220;&#8216;Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Exodus 23:25 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>25 <\/sup>Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Deuteronomy 8:10 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>10 <\/sup>When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Leviticus 19:18 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>18 <\/sup>&#8220;&#8216;Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Parts of the Law deal uniquely with the human conditions of hygiene, diet and food preparation:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Leviticus 11:4 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>4 <\/sup>&#8220;&#8216;There are some that only chew the cud or only have a split hoof, but you must not eat them. The camel, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is ceremonially unclean for you. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Leviticus 11:29 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>29 <\/sup>&#8220;&#8216;Of the animals that move about on the ground, these are unclean for you: the weasel, the rat, any kind of great lizard, <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Leviticus 11:41 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>41 <\/sup>&#8220;&#8216;Every creature that moves about on the ground is detestable; it is not to be eaten. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Leviticus 12:2 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>2 <\/sup>&#8220;Say to the Israelites: &#8216;A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Leviticus 11:39 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>39 <\/sup>&#8220;&#8216;If an animal that you are allowed to eat dies, anyone who touches the carcass will be unclean till evening. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Other commands deal with the treatment of others,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Leviticus 25:17 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>17 <\/sup>Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Deuteronomy 24:16 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>16 <\/sup>Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">So far so good.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The shallow end of the pool is still safe.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Truly, much of the Law is completely consistent with the theological understandings of the average Christian, other than certain foods we enjoy at our church socials; okay, <em>most<\/em> of the foods.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">But, there are parts of the Law which would give the average Christian a nervous breakdown.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>They do not fit the profile of our understanding of the grace of Christ.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>At times, it is not even <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">possible<\/em> for modern believers to obey, such as laws concerning punitive<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>damages which would have been carried out by judges and kings:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Exodus 21:15 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>15 <\/sup>&#8220;Anyone who attacks his father or his mother must be put to death. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Exodus 21:17 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>17 <\/sup>&#8220;Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Exodus 21:14 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>14 <\/sup>But if a man schemes and kills another man deliberately, take him away from my altar and put him to death. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Clearly, parts of the law <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">cannot<\/em> be applicable to each individual Christian, because the infer penalties which individual Christians are not able to enforce.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>These laws, obviously are laws for the nation of Israel and are intended to be carried out.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even so, if the individual Christian felt a necessity to obey the law, would that demand that believers create a nation which would enforce these laws?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Can we live in a nation where Lorena Bobbit has two hands and the kings do nothing?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Deuteronomy 25:11-12 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>11 <\/sup>If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, <sup>12 <\/sup>you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Moreover, some laws are not legal in modern communities, which create a conflict between the Old Testament and the New Testament command of Romans 13:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-tab-count: 1;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><strong>Romans 13:1 (NIV) <\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1 <\/sup>Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">For example,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Deuteronomy 23:24-25 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>24 <\/sup>If you enter your neighbor&#8217;s vineyard, you may eat all the grapes you want, but do not put any in your basket. <sup>25 <\/sup>If you enter your neighbor&#8217;s grainfield, you may pick kernels with your hands, but you must not put a sickle to his standing grain. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Since this law conflicts with the laws of most nations today (I can&#8217;t wander into someone&#8217;s garden &amp; begin to graze), which should the Christian obey; Romans 13 or Deuteronomy 13?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Obviously my tongue is firmly planted in cheek, yet this practice is necessary to demonstrate that it is simply <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">not possible<\/em> for a Christian to obey <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">some<\/em> of the law of Moses.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yet, the impossibility of obeying certain laws is only the tip of the iceberg.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Other issues arise as well.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Some laws were repealed by the New Testament:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Acts 10:9-16 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>9 <\/sup>About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. <sup>10 <\/sup>He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. <sup>11 <\/sup>He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. <sup>12 <\/sup>It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. <sup>13 <\/sup>Then a voice told him, &#8220;Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.&#8221; <sup>14 <\/sup>&#8220;Surely not, Lord!&#8221; Peter replied. &#8220;I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.&#8221; <sup>15 <\/sup>The voice spoke to him a second time, &#8220;Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.&#8221; <sup>16 <\/sup>This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven. <\/span><\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">This makes it acceptable for modern believers to eat crawfish and pork (thank you, Lord!) in most cases, though some still argue that Peter&#8217;s vision was concerned with his call to evangelize Cornelius, a Gentile (which it clearly was), and had no bearing on the dietary laws of the Old Testament.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yet, for most Christians, this law is understood as &#8220;repealed&#8221; because of Peter&#8217;s vision.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">But, even if that is the case, who repealed the laws of the Sabbath?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt 0.5in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Exodus 20:10 (NIV) <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><sup>10 <\/sup>but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">We could go on all day, but the point should be well established by now that anyone making claims that the Law of Moses is still applicable in the lives of Christians simply cannot be making the case that Christians are to obey the entire law.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">It is at this point that\u00a0the process\u00a0gets messy.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Here is where the ants begin their one hundred journeys seeking a dividing line by which they can break the law apart into that which should be obeyed by believers today and that part which is cleanly omitted.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 12pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;
