font-family: Times New Roman;\">In the Old Testament, Sheol is noted to be in a downward place, as is Hades in the New Testament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 1in; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Also, in both testaments, Sheol\/Hades is demonstrated to contain both the righteous and the wicked<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 1in; font-family: Times New Roman;\">However, at a certain point in time, Abraham&#8217;s Bosom\/Paradise is noted to not be in Sheol\/Hades any longer, but in Heaven proper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 15pt 1.5in; font-family: Calibri;\"><em>Textual observations<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<h5 style=\"margin: 0in 0in 8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><em>Jesus went to Sheol\/Hades when he died, like other men do<\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"margin: 10pt 0in 0pt 0.5in;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: x-small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">James 2:26 (NIV)<br \/>\n<sup>26 <\/sup>As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. <\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 15pt 1in;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The body cannot live without the spirit.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>The spirit <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">can<\/em> live without the body, but not the other way around.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin: 10pt 0in 0pt 0.5in;\"><span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Psalms 16:10 (NIV) <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><sup>10 <\/sup>because you will not abandon me to the grave [Sheol], nor will you let your Holy One see decay. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 0pt 1.25in; font-family: Times New Roman;\">He also explains his quote a few verses later: <span style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;\">Acts 2:31 (NIV)<strong> <\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<sup>&#8220;31 <\/sup>Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave [Hades], nor did his body see decay.&#8221;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 1.75in; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Of Jesus, then, it is stated &#8220;you will not abandon me to the grave [Sheol\/Hades], nor will you let your Holy one see decay&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 1.75in; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The abandoning is specifically referencing both the physical and spiritual state of Christ<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 2.25in; text-indent: -0.25in; mso-list: l0 level2 lfo5; mso-add-space: auto;\"><span style=\"font-family: \"><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">o<\/span><span style=\"font: 7pt \">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">This is proof that Jesus went to Sheol\/Hades when he died, and that his resurrection was spiritual- from Hades, and physical- from the tomb.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"margin: 0in 0in 8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><em>Before Jesus rose from Sheol\/Hades, he preached the gospel to the dead there<\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"margin: 10pt 0in 0pt 0.5in;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: x-small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">1 Peter 3:18-20 (NIV) <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18<\/span><\/sup>\u00a0For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19<\/span><\/sup>\u00a0through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison <sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20<\/span><\/sup>\u00a0who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. <\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 0pt 1.25in; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Here, Christ is preaching globally to &#8220;those who are now dead&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin: 10pt 0in 0pt 0.5in;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><em>The &#8220;dead&#8221; in the context is referring not to some who were alive when Christ preached, but to the dead of the former contrast that Christ is ready to judge &#8220;the living and the dead&#8221;<br \/>\n<br style=\"mso-special-character: line-break;\" \/><br style=\"mso-special-character: line-break;\" \/><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"margin: 0in 0in 8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><em>When Jesus rose from Sheol\/Hades he brought the saints of God out of Sheol\/Hades<\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"margin: 10pt 0in 0pt 0.5in;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: x-small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Ephesians 4:7-10 (NIV)<br \/>\n<sup>7 <\/sup>But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. <sup>8 <\/sup>This is why it says: &#8220;When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.&#8221; <sup>9 <\/sup>(What does &#8220;he ascended&#8221; mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? <sup>10 <\/sup>He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) <\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"margin: 6pt 0in 0pt 1.25in; font-family: Times New Roman;\">These captives must be understood as either physical or spiritual (body or soul) people<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt 1.25in;
